Good morning Celtics,

A new year naturally brings about new beginnings and with that comes new opportunities – to meet new friends, build relationships that matter and thrive at school. It has certainly been a long time since we have been together, and it has been wonderful to welcome students back! Our classrooms and hallways have been buzzing with learning, activities and SPIRIT!

Currently, the board has not required our school to make any class organization changes.  Review of all school class organizations will be ongoing through the next 2 weeks and the board will continue to notify schools if there are any changes that need to be made.

School News:

The school has a safe arrival program to ensure that all students are accounted for each day. Parents/Guardians are required to notify the school as soon as possible if a student will be absent. An answering machine is available outside of school hours too. Please phone the school at 519-632-5101 and leave a message providing: child’s name, teacher’s name, grade level, day(s) absent and reason for absence and if ill a description of ALL the symptoms they are experiencing. If the school does not know the reason for your child’s absence, a phone call will be made to you.  Please help us limit these calls by notifying us of your child’s absence.  The safe arrival program exists to ensure your child’s safety.

Start Up Forms:

Most start-up forms will be processed through School Cash Online and they are due today September 10th or Monday September 13th.  There are several documents that require the input of information and there are a couple of read-only documents. Please log into your school cash online account to complete these forms for EACH child.  There are a couple forms that will come home as paper (walking in the neighbourhood, lunch, and student photo consent).  Please send those hard copies back to school.

No Nuts Please:

We want to inform you that St. Brigid is a nut-free school. We have students who suffer from a life-threatening allergy to all peanuts and tree nuts, which causes a condition known as anaphylaxis. We ask for your cooperation in helping to keep these children safe by not sending your child to school with any food containing peanut products or traces of peanuts or peanut substitutes. Students who have severe allergies to such food substances are open to serious health risks when exposed to these substances in their environment or if it is shared with them. We realize this may pose a challenge for you when packing your child’s snacks and lunches. We appreciate your support and understanding of this potentially fatal allergy. Your understanding and cooperation will go a long way in helping us provide for the health needs of these children.

Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC):

St. Brigid Catholic School Advisory Council (formerly School Council) is a group of volunteer parents, guardians, community members, teachers and administrators committed to making our school a great place to learn and grow! The council sees family involvement as one of its main priorities and is committed to welcoming parents into the Celtic community by increasing communication, removing barriers, and creating opportunities to get involved! Meetings are from 6:00pm – 7:30pm on the first Tuesday of the meeting month. This year we will begin by holding them virtually via Google Meets. The initial meeting of the 2021/2022 council will be held  Tuesday, September 21st. If you would like to be a regularly participating member of the advisory council please complete the CSAC Member Form electronically that was posted in school cash online by September 10th-13th, 2021.

Pick Up & Drop Off:

Our school day begins at 8:35am and students are welcome to arrive when supervision begins at 8:20am.  Students are to walk to the backyard and stay on the blacktop.  Please dress for the weather every day. Only if it is raining heavily will students be escorted directly to their classes inside the building.  Bus students will also be directed as we will have staff supporting and directing them.  We ask that parents remain off the blacktop and school yard area.

Further, to avoid traffic congestion it is encouraged that families create a routine to drop off/pick up at the sidewalks and/or side streets where possible throughout this school year.

The Kiss n Drop provides parents the option of pulling into the school front loop.  If you are unable to park on a side street and/or walk to the sidewalk to meet your child, you are welcome to use this feature.  Please do not use the parking lot for drop offs/pick ups.  The parking lot is closed off to accommodate students who ride the school bus.
